Our Grant Program
Walking With Anthony’s donation funded grant program was created to provide urgent rehabilitation grants and access to essential recovery resources for those recently affected by spinal cord injuries. This emergency initiative helps bridge the impossible gap between what insurance covers—and what recovery truly requires. Without immediate support, those injured may never walk—or live independently—again.
Meet Micki & Anthony
In the late morning of February 6, 2010, Anthony Purcell dove into the waters of Miami Beach, something he’d done many times before without incident. This time, he misjudged the depth of his landing spot, broke his neck, and bruised the C5 and C6 vertabrae in his spine. He injured his spinal cord. He was paralyzed, unable to resurface from the water on his own.

I was involved in a motorcycle accident, and I suffered from a spinal cord injury. Prior to my accident, I was working full-time as a vet technician and I was a Crossfit for 10 years.
It all started back in 1991. It was the day after my senior prom. A few friends and I went to the beach. Unfortunately, that day ended tragically with me ending up spinal cord injured and paralyzed.
I was injured October 15, 2017 through motor vehicle accident. It’s been a long journey. My husband was station US Navy in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was active duty at the time unfortunately had to retire early due to my injury and not being able to be deployed.
I was shot 3 times trying to save my little brother. I have bullet fragments in my spine and 1 bullet left in my body.
I was shot 5 times walking from the store by someone trying to rob and not im a Paraplegic, paralyzed from the waist down.
I got shot by a friend, the bullet went through one of my lungs and the bullet got stuck in my spinal cord which left me completely paralyzed from t8 down.
I am a 71-year-old single mother of two grown children who have become successful, caring adults. My life has been full of challenges—from growing up with Polio, which left me with a lifelong limp, to immigrating to the U.S. in the 1970s and facing language and cultural barriers.
On September 5th, 2020 my 27 year old son Jackson was involved in a bad car accident causing an incomplete spinal cord injury with a jump fracture at C6-7 resulting in severe quadriplegia.
December 2nd I was driving home and I rolled my truck 5 times on a gravel road. I remember the whole thing, accident and being partially ejected from the truck in the middle of winter wondering if anyone would ever find me.
