Our Grant Program
Walking With Anthony’s donation funded grant program was created to provide urgent rehabilitation grants and access to essential recovery resources for those recently affected by spinal cord injuries. This emergency initiative helps bridge the impossible gap between what insurance covers—and what recovery truly requires. Without immediate support, those injured may never walk—or live independently—again.
Meet Micki & Anthony
In the late morning of February 6, 2010, Anthony Purcell dove into the waters of Miami Beach, something he’d done many times before without incident. This time, he misjudged the depth of his landing spot, broke his neck, and bruised the C5 and C6 vertabrae in his spine. He injured his spinal cord. He was paralyzed, unable to resurface from the water on his own.

January of this year during my sons basketball season he started experiencing back and chest pains. He was seen by his physician and tested positive for Covid. A week Later my son John woke up and could no longer feel or move his legs.
Im a 52 yo M T4 incomp. I was on my way to work, (picking up and extra shift to help). It was a dark and rainy night at 2300. I take this turn several times a day in my 22 yrs of living in that area when a guy presumed to be drunk was unable to navigate the turn and ended up hitting me.
Miley Rhoad, was involved in a car accident July, 2021 resulting in a 4 month hospital stay and leaving her a C6 Incomplete Quad at only 13 years old. Miley is now 17 years old. Miley had a hard time in the hospital.
Jason had been riding a bicycle back to his friend’s house at night on a greenway he was unfamiliar with. Jason’s bicycle went off into a ditch along the side of the greenway.
I was swimming with friends on August 20th. I was attempting to dive into the pool, but my foot slipped on the wet pool deck and I dove in awkwardly and hit my head on the pool floor.
On August 24, 2023 my family took me to the ER due to severe neurological decline which quickly resulted in complete flaccid paralysis and comatose. After 9 days, I was diagnosed with West Nile Virus resulting in encephalitis and transverse myelitis.
I am a 28-year-old who experienced a life-altering event at the age of 15. As a passenger in a rollover car accident, I sustained a spinal cord injury, resulting in quadriplegia.
I was in a car accident 7 years ago caused by a drunk driver. I was seven years old and spent three months in the hospital. Ever since then, I have been in a wheelchair and living a somewhat normal life.
In 1988 I was a victim of gun violence. There was a shoot out in which I wasn’t involved. I was hit by a stray bullet.
