We had worked super hard every day, weekends and holidays even for over a year to take it. Then 12,000 miles into the motorcycle trip of our lifetimes a large animal appeared in front of me on a country road in Montana.
Dominic was at the beach when a wave came up and crashed him into the shoreline immediately losing feeling below waist. Friends carried him out and called for lifeguards.
Four and a half years ago I was still doing able bodied sports as an all-around athlete and my main sport had become mountain biking. I was always on the podium at local races and very involved in the local bike scene, trail maintenance, and women’s advocacy at my home in Boone NC.
I live in Colorado, am happily married, and have two grown children. I was a practicing physical therapist for 23 years prior to my injury, an occupation I am passionate about and dearly miss doing.
On September 1st 2017, I was injured in a motorcycle accident that left me a C4 quadriplegic. I do not have movement below my shoulders and require around the clock care for all of my daily living activities.
This is my story, it’s the short/long version in August of 2008 I suffered a PICA aneurysm rupture. Less than 8% with a rupture survive or have a quality of life that’s outside of a nursing facility. I survived and actually went back to work in November of 2008!
I was driving to work in a Snow/rain storm, We were building a helicopter hanger on a military base. I hit two patches of black ice and rolled my truck. I was ejected from the vehicle, and fractured 6 vertebrae in my spine, pinched my spinal cord, broke 11 ribs, collapsed both lungs, and I had head trauma from landing the way I did.
On July 16th I was shot and it hit my arm, my lung, and bounced off my spine and came out my back and that left me Pair life from the waist down.
In December 2015, my life changed forever during a family vacation in Maui, Hawaii. I was 19 years old, a freshman at the University of Kansas, and excited for the holidays.
For decades my back has been in terrible condition. Over a decade ago, I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, sciatica, and osteoarthritis in my lower back.
On August 24, 2024, Chase was racing his #24 sprint car in Chico, California, at the Gold Cup Nationals, competing with High Limit Racing for a $100,000 prize. It was a three-day event, and Chase started strong, finishing in 3rd place on Thursday night. However, on Saturday during the main event, while running in 8th place, disaster struck.
Going home from work and a truck T boned me that led me to spin and roll over about 4 times. I am now a quadriplegic and ventilator dependent.
